Website privacy notice
The app has its own privacy policy. This notice covers only what this website itself collects.
Who we are
FARETAKE LIMITED, a company registered in Scotland, number SC898537, registered office Office 1807 Flat 1/1, 3 Fitzroy Place, Glasgow, G3 7RH. We are the data controller for what is described here.
What this site does without asking
This site stores nothing in your browser, sets no cookies and runs no trackers. It loads nothing from any other site, except the bot check on the pages that have a form (see The bot check on the forms, below).
What we keep when you sign up for updates
If you sign up we keep your email address, which of the two boxes you ticked, the wording of each box you ticked (the label beside it and the full wording set out below), which version of that wording and of this notice applied, how you signed up (an unticked box on a web form), the date and time, the page you signed up on and the internet address your request came from. We keep the internet address, with the time, for security and to give evidence to the police if there is an attack or abuse, for 12 months, then it is deleted (see Internet addresses below).
- Why we keep it: to tell you when the FareTake app launches, or to invite you to test it, depending on which box you ticked, and for nothing else. The legal basis is your consent.
- How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe or we have sent the launch email, and then for 12 months more, because the proof that you ticked the box has to outlive the emails it allowed. After that the row is deleted. Your address is also deleted if the app has not launched, or you have not been invited to test, within 12 months of you signing up. The copy in our business mailbox is kept for the same time, then deleted.
- Who else handles your data: Cloudflare stores it for us, sealed. A copy of each sign-up is sent to our own business mailbox, so that we can see who has signed up, and Google provides that mailbox. Nobody else, and it is never shared.
- Unsubscribing and deleting your details: every message we send has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask through the contact form.
What you agree to when you tick a box
The sign-up form on the home page shows one short line beside each box. This is the full wording behind each line, exactly as it is kept with your sign-up. You agree to it only by ticking the box.
Box one. Email me when FareTake launches. FARETAKE LIMITED (SC898537, registered in Scotland) uses my email address only to tell me about the FareTake app launch and does not share it with anyone else. I can unsubscribe from any message, or ask through the contact form at faretake.com/contact, and the address is deleted if the app has not launched within 12 months.
Box two. Invite me to test FareTake before it launches. FARETAKE LIMITED (SC898537, registered in Scotland) uses my email address only to invite me to test the FareTake app and does not share it with anyone else. I can unsubscribe from any message, or ask through the contact form at faretake.com/contact, and the address is deleted if I have not been invited within 12 months.
What we keep when you use the contact form
If you write to us we keep your name if you give one, your email address, the topic you chose and your message, so that we can reply. We also record the internet address your message came from, with the time (see Internet addresses below).
- Why we keep it: to answer you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in replying to somebody who wrote to us.
- How long we keep it: the copy in our storage is kept for 7 years after your last message, or after the case closes if it becomes a case, then deleted. The copy that arrives in our business mailbox is kept for the same 7 years, then deleted. The reason is in Records we keep for 7 years, below.
- Who else handles your data: Cloudflare stores it for us, sealed. A copy is sent to our own mailbox so that we can reply, and Google provides that mailbox.
- Replies: a reply to your message may be drafted with an AI tool. The tool sees your message and your name so that it can draft the reply, and it is run for us by a supplier who handles it on our instructions. Please leave health and other sensitive details out of your message.
What we keep when you apply to be a tester
If you fill in the form on the testing page we keep your name, email address, your phone number, which driver apps you drive for, your city, your weekly driving hours if you give them, your yes or no answer about the WhatsApp group (required) and about writing problem reports (optional), that you accepted the tester terms, which version, and the date and time. We also record the internet address your request came from, with the time (see Internet addresses below). To stop the form being flooded we also count sends per address for one hour using a scrambled code that cannot be turned back into the address; that code is not stored with your answers.
- Why we keep it: to choose and invite testers, to add you to the testers’ WhatsApp group if you said yes, and to talk to you about testing. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form with the terms box ticked.
- How long we keep it: if you are not accepted as a tester, your details are deleted 12 months after you apply. If you become a tester, we keep them while you are a tester and for 12 months after you leave, or until you ask us to delete them, whichever is sooner. You can ask at any time. The copy in our business mailbox is kept for the same time, then deleted.
- Who else handles your data: Cloudflare stores it for us, sealed. A copy of each application is sent to our own business mailbox, so that we can choose and invite testers, and Google provides that mailbox. Nobody else, and it is not used for marketing. If you join the WhatsApp group, WhatsApp (Meta) handles your number under its own terms, and the other testers in the group can see it.
- Leaving and deleting your details: ask through the contact form at any time and we will delete it and remove you from the group.
Records we keep for 7 years
Every message you send us is kept for 7 years after the last message, or after the case closes if it becomes a case. That covers contact form messages, support messages, problem reports, suggestions, complaints, refund requests and requests about your personal data, and it includes the copy in our business mailbox. We keep these for 7 years. The time limit for bringing a legal claim is set by the law of each country, so check your country’s law to see what it is where you live. In some countries it is as long as six years, and we keep the records for one year longer so that we can still talk to you about a complaint after that. Keeping a record for that extra year does not mean we will accept a legal claim after the legal time limit, and it does not change anyone’s legal rights. The records of your payments and refunds are also kept for 7 years from the day each record is made. The legal basis for keeping messages and complaints is our legitimate interest in being able to deal with and defend a legal claim. The legal basis for keeping payment and refund records is our legal obligation to keep them. Deleting a message does not remove anyone’s legal rights.
Internet addresses, on every way of contacting us
Whenever you use any way of contacting us (this contact form, the tester sign-up, the email sign-up, and support messages, problem reports and suggestions sent from the app), we record the internet address your request came from, with the time. We do this for security, and to give evidence to the police if there is an attack or abuse. We keep it for 12 months, then it is deleted. It is not used for anything else. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site and the app safe.
The bot check on the forms
The email sign-up, the contact form and the tester application are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that tells people from automated programs so that the forms cannot be flooded. When a page with a form opens, your browser loads the check from Cloudflare, and Cloudflare sees your internet address and details of your browser so that it can decide whether you are a person. We receive only its answer, yes or no, and we keep nothing from the check. We use it for security, and the legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the forms working and safe. We set no cookie for it.
Where your data goes
Our suppliers keep and handle your data on servers in other countries, including the United States. That means what you send us through this site can be handled outside the UK and outside your own country. Where that happens it is covered by safeguards the law recognises: the supplier’s contract terms, which include standard data protection clauses approved for this purpose, so that your data stays protected to the standard the law requires. You can ask for details of the safeguards through the contact form.
Your rights over your data
You have the right to ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to ask us to restrict how we use it, to receive it in a form you can reuse and take elsewhere, and to object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time, and that does not affect what we did before you withdrew it. You also have the right not to be subject to a decision based only on automated processing that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you. To use any of these rights, use the contact form and choose Privacy and my data, or write to the registered office above. We will confirm your request within 7 days and finish within 30. Deleting a message does not remove anyone’s legal rights.
If our answer does not satisfy you, you can complain to your country’s data protection authority, which in the UK is the Information Commission (known as the ICO), at ico.org.uk. Search for what it is called where you live and how to contact it. You do not need our permission and you do not have to come to us first. We would still like the chance to put it right.
