Key points in short

Your trips, earnings and locations are read and worked out on your phone and stay there, apart from the job details you choose to share. We never collect passenger names. We ask for your name at setup and send it to us with your account number and your Google sign-in email, so that we can reply to you personally and help you recover your account. Replies may be drafted with an AI tool. We keep your messages, and our payment, refund and subscription records, for the periods set out under How long we keep your data, so we can deal with a complaint or a claim. You can see, correct and delete your data. You can complain to your country’s data protection authority at any time. To reach us, use the contact form at faretake.com/contact and choose Privacy and my data.

Driver apps and how their screens are laid out

FareTake checks which gig economy driver apps are installed on your phone, so it knows which ones it can help you with. It records only that an app is there, not what is inside it, and not the rest of what you have installed. To keep the reading working as driver apps change, FareTake also sends us which of those apps are installed and how their screens are laid out: where each item sits and what kind of item it is, with the words and numbers masked. We collect this because reading those screens is the service. It does not include your earnings, your trips or any passenger detail.

Where your driving data is kept

Your earnings, trips and locations are read and worked out on your phone, and they stay on your phone. The location of your phone is used on the phone to measure the distance you drive, and it is not sent to us. The two exceptions are the screen-layout data described above and the job details you choose to share, described next.

We never collect passenger names (the passenger is the customer of your driver app). Drop-off areas are kept only as the outward part of a postcode (for example EC1). If you choose to share job details to help find hidden bugs (Settings, then Data and privacy), we receive the combed data of each job: its structured findings, such as the fare, the distance, the times, the postcode areas and the ride type. We do not receive the raw text of the job card from you. Your phone removes passenger names and exact address details before anything is sent. The legal basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time by turning the sharing off in the same place.

The Accessibility Service

FareTake uses Android’s Accessibility Service. You turn it on yourself, in your phone’s settings, after the app has explained it to you and you have agreed. While you are on a shift it lets FareTake read the text on the job-offer screen of the gig economy driver apps it supports, so it can work out the figures. It reads only those apps. It does not tap, accept, decline or change anything. It does notice when you yourself tap Accept, so that the job can be recorded as accepted. What it reads is used on your phone to work out your figures and is not kept, apart from the job details you can choose to share and the screen-layout data, both described above. You can turn it off at any time in your phone’s settings.

FareTake does not keep the raw job data your ride-share app shows on screen, and it does not show it back to you. What FareTake keeps, on your phone only, is a record of the jobs you accept (fare, distance and time), so that it can show you accurate totals for whatever day range you choose. Reports you generate stay on your phone.

What leaves your device

Apart from your name and your sign-in email, described under Your name and account recovery below, and the job details you choose to share and the screen-layout data, described above, these things can leave your phone. A crash report is sent automatically if FareTake stops unexpectedly. It carries technical details of the crash only, with no message text from job cards, and never your earnings, your trips or your locations. A crash report cannot be turned off. Anything you send us yourself, such as a problem report, a suggestion or a message to Contact support, carries what you picked and typed, your phone model, your operating system and app version, and your account-based number. Please leave passenger details, and health or other sensitive details, out of what you type. The account-based number follows your sign-in account. It is not your email address, and it is deleted with your account or when you ask. It carries nothing about your trips, your earnings or your locations. Your sign-in is handled by Google, and we receive your sign-in email as described under Your name and account recovery, and we use it for the service emails described under Marketing messages. When a message, problem report or suggestion reaches us we also record the internet address it came from, with the time, for security and to give evidence to the police if there is an attack or abuse.

Your name and account recovery

FareTake asks for your name at setup and sends it to us with your account-based number and the email address of your Google sign-in. We use your name so that we can reply to your messages and deal with your complaints using your name, including in replies drafted with an AI tool. We use your sign-in email to recover your account, for example after you reinstall the app or change phone: you prove that you control that sign-in email, and your account and the plan you have unlocked come back. A name or an account number alone is not proof that an account is yours. Recovering an account does not bring back trip data that was kept only on a lost or reset phone. We keep your name and your sign-in email with your account and its messages, and we use your sign-in email for marketing only if you turn on Marketing consent. We never collect the names of passengers or customers of your driver apps. Your name and your sign-in email are personal data like everything else here, so you can see them, correct them and have them deleted, as described under Your rights over your data.

Who we are, and how to reach us

FareTake is run by FARETAKE LIMITED, a company registered in Scotland, number SC898537, registered office Office 1807 Flat 1/1, 3 Fitzroy Place, Glasgow, G3 7RH. We are the data controller for everything described here, which means we are the ones responsible for it. To reach us about your data, use the contact form at faretake.com/contact and choose Privacy and my data, or write to us at the registered office.

Why we hold your data, and the legal basis for each purpose

Reading the job offers on your phone, and keeping your settings, presets and trip totals, is the service you asked us to run for you, so it is held because of our contract with you. The screen-layout data is held for the same reason: the reading cannot be kept working without it. Your sign-in email and your account-based number are held for the same reason: we need them to recognise your account, to recover it and to send you the service emails described under Marketing messages. The job details you choose to share, and the marketing messages we send to your sign-in email, are held on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Your name, and the messages and complaints you send us, are held on legitimate interests: we need them to reply to you personally and to be able to deal with and defend a legal claim. Crash reports are held on legitimate interests: we cannot fix what we cannot see. Internet addresses recorded with your messages are held on legitimate interests too: keeping the app and our contact routes safe from attack and abuse. Payment, refund and subscription records are held because we are legally required to keep them. You can object to anything we hold on legitimate interests, as described under Your rights over your data.

Who else handles your data

Some of your data is handled for us by suppliers who act on our instructions: a cloud hosting and storage provider, which keeps what you send us and runs our website and the servers that receive it; an email and office-tools provider, which hosts our business mailbox and sends our emails to you; a subscription-management provider, which keeps a record of your plan so that the app knows what you have unlocked; and a provider of the AI tool that drafts replies to your messages. Google handles sign-in, app updates and payment through Google Play, and we never see your card. Google also provides your phone’s own backup, which is your account and not ours.

Where your data goes

Our suppliers keep and handle your data on servers in other countries, including the United States. That means data you send us, including your name and your messages, can be handled outside the UK and outside your own country. Where your data goes to a country outside the UK, it goes either to a destination that UK adequacy regulations cover, or under the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the standard data protection clauses, with a transfer risk assessment made before the transfer. You can ask for details of the safeguards through the contact form at faretake.com/contact.

Keeping your data safe

Everything sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit, and what we hold is kept in private storage.

Your rights over your data

You have the right to ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to ask us to restrict how we use it, to receive it in a form you can reuse and take elsewhere, and to object to our use of it where we rely on legitimate interests. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time, and that does not affect what we did before you withdrew it. You also have the right not to be subject to a decision based only on automated processing that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you. To use any of these rights, use the contact form at faretake.com/contact and choose Privacy and my data, or write to us at the registered office. Some of them you can use yourself in the app: Reports gives you a copy of your data, Delete my data deletes it, and the switches in Settings withdraw your consent. We will deal with your request without undue delay and within one month of receiving it. The law lets us take up to two further months for a complex request or a large number of requests, and if we do we will tell you within the first month.

How long we keep your data

We keep each of these for the period shown, and then delete it. Every message you send us is kept for 7 years after the last message, or after the case closes if it becomes a case, including any copy we hold. That covers support messages, contact form messages, problem reports, suggestions, complaints, refund requests and requests about your personal data. We keep them so that we can deal with and defend a legal claim, which is our legitimate interest. The records of your payments, refunds and subscription are kept for 7 years from the day each record is made, because we are legally required to keep them. Your name, your sign-in email and your account-based number are kept with your account until you delete it, and are then deleted, apart from the messages and records described above. Crash reports are kept for 90 days. The internet address and time recorded when a message reaches us are kept for 12 months. The job details you choose to share are kept for 90 days. If you turn on Marketing consent, your consent is kept until you turn it off or delete your account. When you unsubscribe or turn marketing off, we keep only your email address and the date, so that we never send you marketing again. Deleting a message does not remove anyone’s legal rights, and keeping a record does not extend any legal time limit.

Marketing messages

Marketing consent is off until you turn it on yourself with the switch in Settings, and we send you nothing for marketing before then. If you turn on Marketing consent in Settings, we record your consent and use your sign-in email only to send you FareTake news. Holding your sign-in email so that you can recover your account, and sending you service emails (a reminder 7 days and 1 day before your first payment, and notice of a change to the price, the terms or this policy), does not depend on Marketing consent and is not marketing. The legal basis for marketing is your consent. You can turn it off and unsubscribe at any time.

Whether FareTake uses artificial intelligence

The app itself has no AI model, and no decision about a job is made for you. Separately, a reply to a message you send us may be drafted with an AI tool. The tool sees your message and your name so that it can draft the reply, and it is run for us by a supplier who handles it on our instructions. Please leave health and other sensitive details out of your messages. A drafted reply answers your question and is not a decision about your rights, and you can ask for a person to look at any decision about you.

Who FareTake is for

FareTake is for adults aged 18 or over, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

If you want to complain about how we handle your data

Tell us through the contact form at faretake.com/contact, choosing Privacy and my data, or write to us at the registered office. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and answer it without undue delay. You also have the right to complain to your country’s data protection authority, which in the UK is the Information Commission (known as the ICO), at ico.org.uk. Search for what it is called where you live and how to contact it. You do not need our permission and you do not have to come to us first. We would still like the chance to put it right, so please tell us first if you are willing, though you do not have to.

How you find out if this policy changes

If we change anything here that affects what we collect or who sees it, we give you at least 30 days’ notice in the app and by email to your sign-in email before the change takes effect, and the app does not become active on the changed policy until you have accepted it in the app. If you do not accept it, you can cancel without any cancellation fee and you keep your subscription until its renewal date. If you are on a yearly subscription, your account runs to the date the changed policy takes effect and we refund the unused whole months you paid for. The refund is made through Google Play. We will not change this quietly and leave you to notice. The date this was last changed is shown at the top of this page.

Getting a copy of your data, or deleting it

Your own data lives on your phone. A copy of it is a report you can generate any time from Reports, and you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you through the contact form. To delete data, open Settings, then Data and privacy, then Delete my data: tick what you want gone, then type DELETE. It happens straight away on your phone and there is no undo. If you tick anything we hold on our side, the app sends us the request and we delete it once the request reaches us. Any other data we hold covers your name, your sign-in email and the problem reports, suggestions and support messages you sent us. To delete your account as well, tick Everything, or open Settings, then Data and privacy, then Delete account, which signs you out and deletes the account from your phone with everything saved under it. If you have already uninstalled FareTake, use the contact form at faretake.com/contact, choose Privacy and my data, give the email address you signed in with, and write Delete my account. We check that you control that sign-in email before we delete or give you anything. If you also want something you sent us removed, say roughly when you sent it and what it was about, because that is all we have to find it by. We will deal with your request within the time given under Your rights over your data. Deleting does not cancel a Google Play subscription: cancel it in Google Play, or ask us and we will help you cancel it. Deleting does not reach your phone’s own Android backup, which is yours and not ours, or crash reports and the internet address and time recorded when a message reaches us, which are deleted on their own schedule, or the messages and records we are entitled to keep. Each of those is kept for the period set out under How long we keep your data. Deleting a message does not remove anyone’s legal rights.

This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It has three forms, and the website privacy notice sets out what each collects, why, and for how long.

  • The email sign-up on the home page keeps your email address, which of its two boxes you ticked and when, so that we can tell you when the app launches or invite you to test it. It is kept until you unsubscribe or we have sent the launch email, and then for 12 months more, and it is deleted if the app has not launched, or you have not been invited to test, within 12 months of you signing up. A copy of each sign-up is sent to our business mailbox and is kept for the same time.
  • The contact form keeps your name if you give one, your email address, the topic you chose and your message, so that we can reply. It is kept for 7 years after your last message, or after the case closes if it becomes a case, including the copy in our business mailbox.
  • The tester application keeps your name, email address, phone number, the driver apps you drive for, your city, your weekly driving hours if you give them, your answers about the testers’ WhatsApp group and about describing problems in writing, and that you accepted the tester terms and when, so that we can choose and invite testers. If you are not accepted it is deleted 12 months after you apply. If you become a tester it is kept while you are a tester and for 12 months after you leave, or until you ask us to delete it. A copy of each application is sent to our business mailbox and is kept for the same time.

The three forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that tells people from automated programs, so that they cannot be flooded. When a page with a form opens, your browser loads the check from Cloudflare, which sees your internet address and details of your browser to decide whether you are a person; we receive only its yes or no. The website privacy notice has the detail.

Like every website, the company that hosts it records the internet address of each request for a short time, to keep the site running and safe. If you email us, we use what you send to reply to you.
